Adalat Medicine

Adalat is an oral drug which contains active ingredient Nifedipine. It is calcium channel blocker indicated in the treatment hypertension and angina pectoris. Nifedipine also comes under different brands in market like Nifedical XL 30mg, Nifedical XL 60mg, Adalat 30mg, Adalat 10mg and Nifedipine 20mg.

Adalat is a calcium channel blocker which acts on smooth muscle of heart and prevent the entry of calcium ion intracellularly that is responsible for the reduction of cardiac contraction and slowing down electrical activity associated with heart beat in Angina patient. Lowering of blood pressure by the action of these drugs has a prominent role in the management of severe Hypertension and coronary artery disease.
Hypertension and Chest pain are serious heart diseases worldwide that has taken lives of many people. Drugs like Nifedical XL 30 mg, 60 mg, Adalat 10 mg and 30mg are the prominent dihydropyridines which are very useful in the treatment of severe hypertension and patient having chest pain due to Angina. Adalat is also used in sometimes to treat preterm labor and Raynaud's syndrome.

Nifedical 30 mg is contraindicated in patient having severe allergies, difficult bowel movement, narrowing of aortic heart valve, fluid retention, low blood pressure and severe liver and kidney diseases.

Possible drug interaction Adalat may include Quinidine and Tacrolimus. Other medicines like Cemetidine, Refabutine, Rifampin and seizure drugs like carbamazapine, Phenytoin may interact by increasing its elimination.

Storage Adalat:

Adalat 20 mg should be protected from strong light. Keep out reach of the children and pets. It should be packed in original content only.

Doses and Directions of Nifedipine:

Adalat 30 mg is an orally extended release medicament which should be taken with a glass of water. Swallow the drug without crushing it and take it empty stomach.
Take it 3 to 4 times a day. Do not take dose of Adalat more than that is recommended otherwise it may cause overdose symptoms. In case of emergency, contact your doctor immediately.

If you missed the dose of Adalat then take that missed dose when you remember it. But in case, if it is already the time for next dose, one should skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses of this drug at the same time.

Side effects of Adalat may include swelling of lips, throat, and face. Other possible side effects are cough, difficult in breathing, dizziness, headache, muscle cramp, weakness and wheezing. But these side effects may vary from person to person and their responsiveness to this medication.

Safety Measures of Adalat Medication

Take precaution, if you are allergic to any active ingredient present in this medication. Don't take this drug when you are taking other calcium channel blockers as it may aggravate the condition. It should not be recommended in patients having history of heart diseases such as congestive heart failure, aortic stenosis and liver and kidney problems because it requires dose adjustment.
