Azopt contains an active ingredient called Brinzolamide, which is a non-competitive and reversible inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase (CA) that is indicated for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. It works by decreasing the amount of fluid within the eye.

Mechanism of action of Azopt:

Brinzolamide is a highly specific inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase (CA), which is involved in the secretion of aqueous humor. Inhibition of CA in the ciliary process of the eye decreases the formation of bicarbonate and reduces sodium and fluid transport. This results in a decline in the rate of aqueous humor secretion and the intraocular pressure.

Dosage regimen of Azopt:

Apply Azopt eye drop 1% in the affected eye, usually one drop 3 times a day or as directed by a doctor. Before using Azopt eye drops you should first, wash your hands. Tilt your head back. Use your index finger to pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Drop the Azopt eye drop into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Immediately use your finger to apply pressure to the inside corner of the eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Do not blink. If more than one topical ophthalmic medication is being used, the drugs should be administered at least ten minutes apart.
