Antibiotics

Antibiotics are the drugs that are used for the treatment of bacterial infections. Antibiotics are also known as antibacterial drugs. The main mechanism of Antibiotic drugs is to destroy the bacteria or to inhibit the growth of bacteria. The Antibiotic drugs act in two ways as if-

  • A bacteriostatic type of antibiotic drug helps the multiplication of the bacteria.
  • A bactericidal type of antibiotic drug helps to destroy the bacteria by interfering the formation of the bacterium's cell walls.
     

The major targets of antibiotic drugs are bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Antibiotic drugs do not work against the virus. A variety of antibiotic drugs is available that are helpful for the treatment of various bacterial infections. Some are given below-

  • Quinolone such as Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin.
  • Sulfonamides & Trimethoprim  such as Cotrimoxazole.
  • Macrolides such as Erythromycin and Azithromycin.
  • Tetracyclines such as Tetracycline and Doxycycline.
  • Aminoglycosides such as Gentamicin and Tobramycin.
  • Cephalosporins such as Cefadroxil and Cefalexin .
     

Antibiotics mostly prescribed at the time when an individual is suffering from the condition of bacterial infections. A few numbers of drugs Amoxil, Garamycin, Zithromax, Rocephin, Suprax, Levaquin, generic Tetracycline, Minocycline, Pentids, Sumycin, generic Tindamax, Vantin, Dapsone, Sporanox, Omnicef, Metrogel, Augmentin, Avelox, Bactrim, Bactroban, Biaxin, Ceftin, Cipro, Cleocin, Doxicycline, Eryc, Floxin, Keflex, and Avrazor or Giro.
