The Acular eye drop is an effective medication that is commonly used for the management of eye pain, burning, itching, seasonal allergic conjunctivitis and stinging following a certain type of corrective eye surgery. It should be used four times in a day. It is ophthalmic preparation which contains Ketorolac as the main ingredient.

Acular eye drop (Ketorolac) comes under the class of medicine known as Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). This medication produces action by blocking certain natural substances in your body to reduce pain and swelling.

What are the contraindications of Acular eye drop?

  • You should not use this medication in the case of a severe allergic reaction like severe rash, hives etc.
  • This medication should not be used if you have other eye problems, abnormal cornea or disease affecting the surface of the eye.
  • This medication should not be used in the case of asthma, bleeding problems, diabetes, nasal polyps.

What are the drug interactions of Acular eye drop?

You should not use the following class of medication as these medications may alter the action of Acular eye drop and can cause harmful effects.

  • Anticoagulants: Warfarin, Aspirin, and Heparin.
  • NSAIDs: Ibuprofen.
  • Topical corticosteroids: Dexamethasone.

How to use Acular eye drop?

To use this medication on the eye you have to wash your hand. You have to tilt your head back. Use your index finger to pull the lower eyelid away from the eye and make a pouch. Then drop the medicine into the pouch and gently close your eyes. You should not blink the eye and remove excess medicine around.

What are the side effects of Acular eye drop?

Common side effects such as irritation, redness, swelling Temporary stinging and burning of the eye while applying, and itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, and face.

  • In the case of children, you should use this medication with extreme caution.
  • This medication may cause blurred vision so do not drive after application.
  • Remove your contact lenses and specs before using this medication.
